Sri Lanka: Muslim refugees fear repercussions after jihadist attacks | DW Stories

Following a series of attacks on Muslim owned shops and mosques in Sri Lanka, authorities responded quickly with a curfew and nationwide social media ban. But the attacks are representative of the fear and distrust Muslims across the island have been facing since Easter Sunday. In an address to the nation, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the government had taken measures to prevent unidentified groups from orchestrating communal violence. That peace has already shown signs of being disturbed via backlash on social media and brewing tensions in Muslim areas. One of the starkest examples of anti-Muslim sentiment is in the city of Negombo, where hundreds of Muslim refugees, mostly from Afghanistan and Pakistan, fled their homes. Negombo was hit hard by the Easter Sunday attacks, where one of the suicide bombers killed more than 100 people.

Its the Wahabbi terrorists to blame. People are generally friendly towards foreigners. But the terrorists changed it all. Its not Pakistan which minorities are treated like trash. But its not fault of Sri Lanka and its people, whom they have to pay for sins of other coutries which they dump minorities.

Asanga Abeyagoonasekera, please stop manipulating things around. SLA and the SL Government, want to keep the grip on the North and East where the most Tamil population lives. Your security heads were informed by the Indians and you all agreed Indians did. If it was a Sinhalese were to be attacked you would have dealt differently, things were to be done towards the Tamils and you don't give a dam about the Tamils lives. So stop acting out. Reach out and treat all as equal citizen of the country. Stay focus on reconciliation process and if you can not protect the Tamils, let them go separate and Tamils will protect them self from biased Sinhalese government. Past 70 plus years you have ruled and done nothing to protect the Tamils, you mass murdered 300,000 plus Tamils lives.
