Ideally one of both Sanju and Ishan would be picked in the WC squad, with KL Rahul being the main WK. India played Ishan instead of Sanju as a middle order batsman. It sounded a good idea, to test if Ishan could play in the middle order just in case KL Rahul is unfit during the WC matches. Then, what was the need for Ishan to open the innings. We all know Ishan is a proven opening batsman. You lost a chance to test if he could play in the middle order or not. Moreover, Ishan is not that great when it comes to strike rotation. So, this was the perfect chance to test if he could play in the middle order. Strange tactics in the 1st ODI, but I hope they play both SKY and Ishan in the middle order for the next 2 ODIs.
