Hundreds gathered this weekend to honor Jason Rivera, a 22-year-old NYPD rookie who was killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call. Last year more than 300 police officers were shot nationwide and 63 killed. A number of major U.S. cities are struggling with violent crime, with 16 cities breaking records for homicides in 2021.
