A Senate committee held hearings over claims of unhealthy living conditions in military base homes. The Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations today cited “numerous instances” in which one company “failed to properly respond to both repairs and environmental hazards,” including mold.

This has been going on since they were awarded the contracts. They have stolen more money from the government in billed man hours and repairs than they've ever done. Between mold, infestation of numerous types of critters, horrible workmanship, and a plethora of other issues. Then coming after all of us who used base housing when we went to clear it, it didn't matter if we had shown work orders for repairs needed, they still had us paying them for their failure to maintain the property. They shouldn't just be fined, they should lose their contract at the minimum, it's not hard to do the right thing the first time.
I remember when I was stationed at Ft Dix New Jersey, I would have considered myself fortunate to have been assigned quarters that were called "Splinter Village", even though at that time there was claim of unhealthy conditions. They were reclaimed US Army WWII barracks. They had the red linoleum floors later identified as a hazard to one health. As military we were used to getting last rate and happy to get it. I am lucky to be 84 years of age however having been wounded twice in Vietnam, and consider myself lucky to be retired. I receive health care from the VA and I am more than pleased with the care I get from the VA here in Monterey /Seaside CA especially in the new clinic, and the Palo Alto Pharmacy . I hear stories about other VA clinics in the USA but have thus far been very fortunate.
