Originally none of those countries were supposed to be part of Russia. After world war 2 the Red Army forced the Nazis to hand over all the lands that they have taken Russia adopted those countries and turned them into Soviet States it was never willingly they didn't want to be part of Russia. After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 they all have became independent nations. But of course Putin misses the old days he's always wanted to bring back the Soviet Union and that's exactly what he is doing.
