Severe drought in California is creating major challenges for farmers in the state. Joe Del Bosque, who has operated his farm since 1985, says this year is one of the worst that he can recall. Water officials believe the past three years could end up as the driest in California’s history. At Lake Castaic near Los Angeles, Lester Holt witnesses the “dangerously low” water level – just 53 percent capacity. An official tells him that the measurements for the Sierra Nevada snowpack, critical for the state’s water supply, are “grim.” California provides two thirds of the U.S. supply of fruits and nuts, and farmers are now forced to make difficult choices. Bill Deitrich says he’s unable to grow tomatoes this year because the limited water supply needs to be diverted to other, more dependable crops. State officials are now under pressure to do more to capture the water from storms so it can be used on farms.

"Call on the Lord in the day of trouble,
and He will deliver you."
Psalm 50 :15
Don't care
These are not your family farmers. You do not see this produce at a farmers market This is agribusiness big agro, millions of dollars. A big business that should be taxed for there needs. You have to pay property tax, you get charged for all the services you need. I am sure the CEO's of these agro businesses want the citizens to pay for the water to grow in a desert.
Also, why do people act like desalination doesn't exist? We could drink the ocean water, the vikings would use desalination.
My brother doesn't believe in global warming

God bless🙏 USA🇺🇸
california paying for its sins
This has been coming on for 10-20 years and to this day they haven't made golf courses or mcmansions to quit using millions of gallons of water on on desert ground. They to build whole housing additions on these same grounds, while not stopping the oils and fracking and other things that destroy the environment.
Stop Growing Almonds.
Growing nuts like almonds use an insane amount of water. They squandered the water in California and now its come back to bite them.
We all should do cloud seeding so it will end the drought.
2/3rd's of fruits and nuts. Who cares. when I am a person that has learned of the course of my years that you have to eat what you are. And being a person on a budget. foods like that are not really an options. but most important….You can't just eat whatever. If the wealthy man eats a cheeseburger then I eat a bologna sandwich.
It takes years to figure that out for me. because I live above my means…..but most important I destroy my focus to have money to live because I skewed the message in my head and had a cheeseburger But the most important of all I am not a good looking man and ugly people eat ugly people food most of all.
Tomato’s grow in North Carolina
this is a repost
GOP made it political and Nature made it science. Guess who is winning?
Seriously?!! After decades of research & proof in the most progressive state on climate change, we weren't preparing and investing in ground water recharging and rain storm capture?!!! After all the bells & whistles and alarms were going off, we ignored them thinking there's always going to be water somewhere maybe next year? We are doomed as a species….
For so many years, people refuse to believe in climate change… this is it… people will have no water to consume as temperature keeps rising…
I think it would be wise to get out of this dumpster fire soon.
Desalinate , it’s the only way
California has a bad habit of letting rich people waste water on their precious lawns and golf courses. So much water waste….and then they move out of state ready to destroy other areas when the going gets tough.
its bc of Elon's Boring Company fckn up the natural well systems….water is >1x more abundant in the ground. the man wants to live on MARS- ya know the vapid hellscape of 95% CO2
Scientists have been warning us about water shortages and No ONE was listening.
Hey let people catch the water of their roofs like we do. I haven't paid for water in 25 years. Water IS FREE it falls from da sky. Don't live in a desert.
We just had snow in Hawaii last month, not that we need that for water, a rain forest provides. NO the tomatoes that go into my sauce comes from my land.
almonds take TOO much water to grow in a desert dummy
and people still complain about bicycle lanes !
Sounds like these impoverished farmers need another huge government subsidy. This explains why they traditionally vote Republican.
Hey AMERICA!! You and I need to come up with a way to transfer water through pipelines!!!.. I am from central valley, but now live in Arkansas? The past year it has done nothing but rain where I'm at…
I remember this is how California used to be……Any politicians out there?!
YOU know who you are,and the influence you carry…..
you mean you don't have all that sea water that can be turned into fresh water
Even though this happens year after year, why is this a surprise to anyone? Now it has become severe, but yet, no one took the warning signs seriously? Glad to see the government taking such good care of their people here.
If you are still growing a grass lawn then you will be part of the population that will starve to death in 5 years. You need to grow food on your lawn, not grass
The planet is changing. We need scientists to make it rain 🌧 or we're doomed.
