I interpret Elon's comments on doubling the population as a social commentary that people should do more to advance socialism and the welfare of society. Because if we can't look after ourselves now, we're going to struggle with this with double the amount of people on the planet.
Yes, the planet will be fine, but humans maybe not so much, unless we change our ways. People already crack under the pressure of two percent of the population having to support the rest, so those that have been placed in these positions just withdraw from any responsibility and/or those that claim authority have insufficient executive action on authority.
