There’s a serious problem with trying to describe the shooter as left-wing or right-wing, as politics aren’t really a spectrum. The Libertarian Party describes politics as two dimensions: moral issues and economic issues.
The shooter was deranged and held beliefs no sane person would ascribe to. He said, “Call me an ethno-nationalist eco-fascist national socialist if you want, I wouldn’t disagree with you.” This means he believes in government control of moral and economic issues, making him neither Republican nor Democrat, but a totalitarian. And not just a totalitarian, but a weird breed of both Nazism and communism, the worst of both worlds, really.
