In a biased, racist and unjust society such as America any gun laws enacted will adversely impact the minority citizens on which the enforcement will be directed. Mental health like any other health issues is not the cause of killings. The new generation of killers are those who have been pampered and lack the social skill for conflict resolution. Parents who can instill discipline and command respect for authority figures are far and few.
When a US citizen joins the military we take an oath to defend the Constitution against enemies foreign and domestic. Therefore citizens must be armed in the event we have a domestic threat against our Constitution.
In the recent and unfortunate Uvalde shooting,, sounds to me that an armed security guard failed to do thier job.

About 50% of that 37% gun death number in Canada in 2020 happened in Nova Scotia during the mass shooting where over 20 were killed.
We have not had a mass shooting in 2 years.
