Surveillance video shows 4-year-old, non-verbal Xavier Rigney getting inside the locked gated pool at his apartment complex and into the water. Neighbor 12-year-old Maddox Westerhaus witnessed the incident and went to get his father, Tom, who jumped the fence, rescued the young boy from the water and started CPR to save his life.

The dollar store sells window alarms. I would put one on the front door. I would also reverse the door lock in the child's bedroom and lock him in at night or anytime I was sleeping/unavailable. I would also change front door lock to a keyed on the inside lock. Sadly autistic, nonverbal children are escape masters. Another important thing is putting a label on the outside back of their clothing with your area code and phone number. That way police/community know who to call. You can stick to light colored clothing and write it with a sharpie
to avoid sensory issues.

I always advise parents to get swimming lessons for their kids at, or around this exact age, maybe even a year younger. Obviously, the reason being is, if the child strays away around water and falls in somehow…..👌🏾
