A hot air balloon collided with a moving train in Wisconsin after a witnesses said the balloon was flying unusually low in a residential area. NBC News’ Steven Romo reports on why federal investigators are still trying to piece together how this accident sent three people to the hospital.

I'm just a mechanic… but it would seem to me that it was either Pilot error (miscalculation of landing / ascend, or Ballon / equipment malfunction. Balloons don't have brakes like cars, but they can drop ballast to climb quicker (if they had enough). The train was in the path of the descend / ascend… that's not the train's / engineer's fault.

0:49 that is true but it takes time for the balloon to react to your input.
My first thought would be the balloon was close(really shouldn't have been that close to a moving train) and the balloon got sucked into the train when the pilot was trying to land somewhere else.
But these things are as tall as a 6 or 7 story building so they are not very good at changing altitude very quickly without causing damage.
After this incident all trains will be required to have steering wheels.

Yeah I work for the owner of one of the largest in California with 44 years experience and THIS has never happened!! Oh we also have no utility poles and wires everything is underground. You would never get me to fly in one in those areas…..too congested! That pilot needs to be disciplined!
