When the media and others started looking at the numbers of live birth rates, they decided to move the Boomer Generation dates. The year’s first identified for Boomers were 1940 to 1959 until around 2001. When they looked back, they saw the birth numbers didn’t decline until 1964. As this was the largest SWATH of high birth rates in a row. Thus began the forced change through media to dramatize and raise Boomers to being the Only Significant Generation that mattered.
The push to envelope even more of the population into the Boomer numbers, succeeded in the Boomers taking in all numbers from 1940 to 1964. As the headlines screamed out the unbelievable numbers that made up the Boomer generation, many began looking into the age range it encompassed. Believing no generation should or could be 24 years long, a shift to declare the Boomer Years going to 1964 was very disagreeable to the group formerly known as The Gap.
The Gap, was so named because they fell into an “age gap” between generations born 1960 – 1964. The IDEA of a generation gap was a time when the birth rates seemed to drop before rising again. Since this was not the case and believing they IDENTIFIED more with Gen X, the Gap group began a campaign to be EXCLUDED from Boomers altogether, and insisted that they were the beginning of Gen X. The media again along with campaigns by college students writing thesis’ on why there was no generation gap in the 60's helped cement to idea.
This shifted the two generations again, putting Boomers squarely back in 1940-1959 and adding themselves to Gen X, making the new generational timeline 1960-1979. Both generations now equaled 19 years and landed on an easy-to-follow generation line using 20, 40,60,80 and 00 as the new generations start dates instead of birth rates, world and political views, or generational identity.
Thus began a weird and wild ride started by number crunchers, targeted sales models, Boomers, entangled by The Gap group, and pushed by The Pew Institute to wholly fudg-uck the Generation timeline. Many articles, books, documentaries, and blogs since 2004 have helped this by consistently fudg-ucking the dates.
The years 1965 to 1984 showed concurrent decline in birth rates, or a 19-year generation. This IS Generation X, before pressure was put on Strauss-Howe to change the dates.
The birth rates did not begin to rise again until 1988. Gen X was now 23 years old.
But it was the year 1990 the media latched onto as the beginning of Generation Y. A nice round number. A joke began circulating, the y was because “they always ask why, why, why” of course they were children. This nickname didn’t last long however. According to the media, the generation was set to run from 1990 to 2009, instead of 1988- 2007 and would be a generation to cross the century mark. As such a new moniker came into existence, Millennials. All articles, TV shows and movies of this early time helped to archive this notion, despite what was about to happen.
Under the fudg-ucked timeline the Millennials began to be defined as being born between 1980
1999, as this was easier to remember and it was preferred by the media and those who target sales by age groups. This was nice and easy and everyone excepted it. Except, it didn’t happen. The biggest driving force behind this screwy new world was again, the number crunchers, the targeted sales models, the Boomers, the Gap and The Pew Institute. The Pew institute was established in 2004, and quoted too many times in places, where people were either to lazy to verify information, or too stupid to know they were being led around by the nose. While the Pew Institute sounds like a place you would get facts, it’s not. It is a fact tank that informs the public about the issues, attitudes and trends shaping the world and it’s been this group shaping a lot of fudguckery. Once they starting designating 1980-1999 as Millennials, they began redefining the 20002016 group as Generation Z. Only its not.If you want to a clear idea of what it is supposed to be look like, go back to the Strauss-Howe model, and remember it took 30 years of pressure to change the dates that appear now. There are old videos, articles and books preceding the change. Look at the people around you. Look at the movies, books and things that help really define your generation.
Boomers are people born around 1940-1959. (19 years) They are between 63 to 82
• The Age Gap between 1960-1964 belongs to Boomers by numbers (making the Generation 24 Years long) or Are a Generation unto themselves.
Generation X are people between 1965-1984 (19 Years) and are 36 to 57
• The Age Gap between 1985-1987 show that the birthrates remained low here. They could, by numbers belong to Gen X, (making Gen X 22 Years long) or They can be a Generation unto themselves.
Millennials are people born from 1988 to 2007 (19 Years) and are 15 to 34
• Since 2008 the population has not maintained a steady birthrate, instead it has fallen year over year. In fact, every year since 2008 we have reached a New Low in Birthrates because of the Government and Media.
While this might seem to advocate the turn over of Roe vs Wade, it doesn’t. If the Government and Media wanted people to help raise the number of births, they should have thought about that and offered people a safe and happy place to live, not more laws governing every aspect of life, not growing numbers of homeless, not poverty levels of existence on their own or the social dime.
Even though the Media and The Pew institute want to deliver targeted age groups that work for Sales the mindset of a generation is not something they can make up. When Intelligent people are happy and feel that they can have children who will themselves grow up in an even better place, they have more children. Populations of slaves are not so easy to come by, unless you take away the ability to do math, learn to write with pencil and pen, learn to read something as silly as cursive, then you might have a chance.
One last note, since graduating when the Breakfast club came out in theaters, me and the people born 17 and 18 years earlier, got kicked around a great deal by Boomers, and now nearly 30 years later, we are sandwiched between the Self-help group and the Selfie group, I just wanted to point out we aren’t dead, and we won’t go quietly…. And I don’t believe in the Pew Institute, you probably shouldn’t either.
