Bruce’s Beach Returned To Family Righting A Nearly Century-Old Wrong

100 years ago, Bruce’s Beach was a sort of paradise for Black Californians in an otherwise rigidly segregated Los Angeles. Charles and Willa Bruce built a cafe and a dance hall there. However, the local town council condemned the property through public domain, claiming that it was needed for a park. The land sat vacant for decades. The Bruce family finally now finally has their beach back. NBC News’ Harry Smith shares their story.

  1. They won the lottery and are smiling all the way to the bank!

  2. The county should have to pay to rebuild the resort that they bulldozed… in the family should be paid royalties for every time any part of their property was bought and sold

  3. This is not Reparations; this is The Returning of Stolen Property. For all of The People who criticize/stereotype Black People, for not “ Pulling Yourself up by The Bootstraps “, understand that BLACK PEOPLE BUILT THEMSELVES UP, ONLY FOR WHITE GOVERNMENTS TO SIMPLY TAKE AWAY, BLACK GENERATIONAL WEALTH ( Land, Real Estate, Businesses ). There should be a NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO RETURN ALL LAND BACK TO THEIR RIGHTFUL OWNERS!

  4. This is wonderful … May your entire family enjoy… Don't forget your past family members. 👍

  5. 🙄Ok? Hey Bruce family, How about returning that land back to the Indigenous Peoples??

  6. There is no reconciliation without reparations. Period. But glad they got their land back. I’d keep it if I were them. $20 million sounds very low.

  7. MSNBC is so happy with this story but this was done to black folks on a regular basis during Jim Crow Era. One of my great grandfather's land was stolen by his white lawyer. All of Native black Americans need to be repaired!

  8. Just think what we would have if everything that was stolen from us were given back😳

  9. Now return the rest of the land to the native nations ; neither black nor white own any lands in America. How is this matter about the treatment of kidnapped peoples from Africa, and not about the ravaged nations of the land?

  10. Yes. About time. 40 acres and a mule….the great urbanization act. Remember

  11. This is impossible. The USA is so full of systemic racism since its' inception that black people have never been allowed to own anything.

  12. This isnt new information unless Im mistaken and this is a completely different family and land?

    But yes 🖕"Public Domain "

  13. Now the fighting begins… It's mine!!!!

  14. This is why they don't want black history to be taught in schools. They're afraid the misdeeds of their grandparents and actual parents will be discovered.

  15. I don't think they should be feeling any need to keep it as a park. They should bulldoze it and develop every square inch of it, and squeeze every single dime out of it. That's what Charles Bruce would have (possibly) wanted.

  16. Alles sehr schön. Aber zuerst zusammen die Nummern 10 und 1. Eine verwohntt.online Brünette und eine anderev Blondine. Es wäre unfair, wenn ich 4 wählen würde

  17. Wish they could do this for Tulsa

  18. History is something that never can be forgot

  19. The Arc of Justice…amen.

  20. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼♥️🥰😊

  21. Does it feel like justice, nope it feels like $20 million worth of justice.

  22. 20 million dollars is nothing they should be telling them they'll take 400 million so since that's a number nobody's coming to they need to keep their land I would feel insulted by a 20 million dollar offer.make money 💰 from Leasing it and make sure that the city is responsible for all upkeep

  23. It will likely be sold for Jordan’s and swishers.
