Three people have died and a fourth is in critical condition after a lightning strike across the street from the White House. WRC’s Darcy Spencer reports.

So tragic and unnecessary. I'm a storm spotter. I was trained in 2012 (not to be confused with a storm chaser). I am always saddened by incidents like this, but dismayed why there's not a better understanding of how deadly lightning can be and what not to do during a thunderstorm. Seek substantial cover like a building or a car. Never be out in the open, near a pole or a tree or in a swimming pool or near water. Standing under a tree when the lightning strikes it sends the electricity down the trunk and through the ground electrocuting anyone standing near it. The electricity can flow through the ground several yards. There are weather apps to download on your phone and you can set up alerts so you know when severe weather is near by. Even if the storm is coming in but several miles away, or as it is leaving you can still be struck by lightning 🌩. Stay safe out there.
This is my worst fear
This is a sad story about these people. However, this may just be the beginning of the tests of Russia's or China's new "Lightning-Ray" weapons. Why else would Lightning strike near the Whitehouse? Not trying to start any conspiracy theories here, just saying. 😉
