One woman died after an alligator attack in Hilton Head, S.C. Major Angela Viens of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said that upon responding to the situation the alligator appeared to be holding the woman “hostage.”

A former co worker who once lived in Florida due to her military husbands orders told us stories about alligators killing pets, getting on your property and killing people. She hated Florida very much and would later have nightmares about living there. She said she would wake up and go down to her kitchen to fix coffee and find lizards had gotten in and would be in her kitchen area or downstairs somewhere. She said they often saw alligators all over the place according to her and once a neighbor's small child went missing and hours into the search it was determined to be an alligator was responsible. She said that's when she told her husband she was packing up and they had to move at once. She warned all of us never to live in Florida.

Wow I'm just 45 mins north of Myrtle Beach and here in the CapeFear River, Brunswick river and Town Creek there are loads of alligators not uncommon to see 10 footers if you go looking, my condolences to the friends and family that's a horrible way to spend your last moments

This happened minutes away from me.. it’s very sad and unfortunate what happened to her but it’s a serious reminder that we have to cautiously keep a distance between them.. the water is their home.. we have a pond in our backyard and we NEVER walk the edge or go out back at night.
