DeSantis recently stated, “Enforcing the law based on who they like or don’t like.” DeSantis, are you kidding me? That’s EXACTLY what you do. YOU said, “that’s not a Republic.”
Anyone even slightly familiar with basic Florida law knows that Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision to manhandle the redistricting process for political gain violated the Florida Constitution. But DeSantis went ahead anyway and used his office to draw congressional district map lines, blatantly favoring Republicans and disenfranchising the state’s Black voters. Two illegal moves in one act: Participation by a partisan governor in a function that’s supposed to be impartial. Gerrymandering districts to steal from minorities the right to choose who represents them, thus favoring the white, Republican majority. But DeSantis’ ego looms over Florida larger than the law — and his followers believe anything he says and does and don't question or look for the truth.
DeSantis pushed legislation that makes it more difficult and increases the potential jail times for state residents who PEACEFULLY protest and demonstrate, a right enshrined in the First Amendment. (A judge has blocked parts of the law; DeSantis vowed to appeal.)
DeSantis is busy again trying to drum up attention. He's stated that he won't act out of fear regarding Monkeypox. He said the same thing about COVID. Why is he so negative? He's thinking about FEAR (and how his followers love that word) rather than thinking about preparedness. Just because someone wants to react RESPONSIBLY doesn't mean they're fearful. That would be asinine, DeSantis. Declaring a state of emergency is intended to enable government officials to take extra measures to protect the public IF NEEDED. He doesn't want that? Declaring a state of emergency may trigger anti-price gouging laws and seek state or federal funding aid for disaster response IF WARRANTED. If it's not needed, then don't use it but maybe DeSantis should think about being prepared since his state has one of the highest Monkeypox cases in the U.S. That's not fear, just reality.
There's so much to name but what about how DeSantis finds ways to get rid of or silence or fire those who don't agree with him. His "fight" with Disney is juvenile at best.
8/18/22: Why did a Federal Judge just stop the 'Stop Woke Act' for Workplaces? Because it violates First Amendment rights and can't be enforced. He knows this and is just looking to encite those who follow anything he says/does – – to LOOK like he's actually achieving anything great in Florida. NO SCHOOL IN FLORIDA was teaching anyone to feel anguish about history. HISTORY is being taught not critical race theory. Facts about history is not CRT, it's just facts. What is DeSantis afraid of? Or, what anguish is he feeling?
When you have a Trump supporter state, “We feel John McCain was a traitor,” I almost feel there’s no hope to get Trump supporters to stop being flunkies and stop all of the lies and division of “THEM” vs. “US”.
