Why aren't more western leaders and experts discussing and preparing for the very possible worst case scenario of nuclear conflict occurring?
My two cents worth isn't very popular these days, but we have yet to take this war seriously. Everyone outside of Ukraine seems to be afraid to discuss the war escalating into WW3, which is just as likely as any other outcome. With the full backing of NATO's article 5, each of the EU countries should have already formally declared war on Russia for attacking and invading Ukraine, whether it's a NATO/EU member or not. All Russian citizens and diplomats abroad or any Russian with dual citizenry residing outside of Russia should already be detained as enemy combatants and imprisoned as POWs or deported back to Russia. That should be their only choice, remain detained for the entire length of the war or get deported to Russia. It's more choice than the U.S. military gave German and Japanese immigrants living as American citizens on American soil, who were locked up in U.S. internment camps during WW2. It's more choice than the Kremlin would give EU citizens inside Russia today. We could continue to keep our military involvement in the war contained within Ukraine and our political aims focused on globalizing sanctions as much as possible. Officially declaring war will justify stronger and stronger sanctions as nonviolent, tempered responses during official wartime and help Europe as a people understand the West is now truly at war with Russia. As in all times of war, there are always the usual extra costs across society in general and with the economy in particular as well as personal sacrifices demanded of everyone, as in reducing energy consumption. When your nation is at war you have to do whatever it takes to win ffs, not sue for peace with an active enemy threat still looming.
Although in the end, winning on the battlefield doesn't really matter when you're fighting a despotic megalomaniac with nuclear weapons fulfilling a manifest destiny to rule the entire Eurasian continent. Putin is highly trained to deny the reality of this war with every fiber of his subconscious being, he is just as brainwashed by the Kremlin as the rest of the mainstream Russian population. For nearly 50 years the leaders of the West have been in denial of it all as well, mostly to avoid having to face the fact that as long as there are stockpiles of nuclear arsenals, nuclear war is inevitable. But we're also caught up in maintaining our own propagandistic, brainwashed version of ourselves and the world as well.
Because anybody on the planet who still thinks America has all these thousands of nuclear weapons but we wont ever use them, still does not have both eyes open. Putin will never accept defeat. He'd sacrifice his own mother and children to avoid defeat, it's part of his "special combat" training. He's been subconsciously trained to remain in denial of defeat at all costs. It's like a hypnotic order being carried out where conscious rationality no longer exists, it's like a computer running software that's running a program and now the program runs the hard drive. KGB mind-control roots itself in successively deeper and deeper layers of the subconscious as well as all levels of Russian political and military command, like the matryoshka doll, a doll within a doll within a doll… So negotiate concessions? With who? There are only a very silent few at the top of the Russian government who still have their wits about them and they are not coming forward at the risk of imprisonment or death.
Every Ukranian knows from the past 40 years or so that Russia will just say one thing and do the other, like the KGB/FSB always does. And now every Ukranian knows as well, if they stop fighting they'll be dead, the whole country. Ukrainians can't stop and Putin won't stop, not until he's dead.
So the longer this war continues, the more likely it will escalate into the rest of Europe with NATO against Russia until in the end the U.S. and Russia go nuclear on each other. When Putin is rattling his nuclear saber, that's when we are mostly safe. But Putin saying, he would never use nuclear weapons, is the first step in his plan to conduct a nuclear strike.
That's why we should just nuke tf outta Moscow right now and completely de-kremlinize Russia while we still can. There will be little to zero Russian retaliation, cut the head off the snake and the rest of the serpent is useless. All totalitarian governments and their militaries as in Russia, are always staffed with only those types of people who only follow orders and never give orders or take command upon themselves. It's the #1 personality trait required for the job, before the KGB's indoctrination to never think for yourself or you'll be executed. Nuke Moscow and the FSB now, de-kremlinize Russia. It would save the rest of us a lot of time, money and trouble. 20 or 30 years from now my friends, no one will care about who was right or wrong. SLAVA UKRAINE!
