Nice that we can rely on experts. As a bit of an expert myself I also thought there would be no invasion (because of the cost and the inability to control that kind of area with the troops at hand). And that is a lesson to remember: think for yourself. Experts make enough mistakes that reading up and making up your own mind will put you one-up on almost everyone. Especially if someone is pointed out as an expert by someone who knows nothing.

In retrospect, that "expert" really done messed it up.
Now we know the expertise of the expert
People get things wrong sometimes. This invasion is one of the boldest in history, and only inside information could have confirmed it was happening beforehand. Scott isn't who you think he is. The guy has been more critical of the right wing than anybody and he's probably the most well-informed war scholar in the world. He follows this stuff more than anybody, and by doing so, is constantly exposed to claims that "this country is about to invade that country/commit some atrocity". Hundreds of times over the past 30 years that he's been in this business, and not one time has it turned out to be true. This is unprecedented. Regardless on him being wrong about this, he's the first person you should follow during this if you want the full story of what's happening, what lead to it, and what other interests are involved. The guy is insanely well informed about international relations. More so than anybody I've ever seen, and I've been neck deep in this stuff for 15 years.
Edit: I've pasted this as a response to a few comments in hopes people will read it. I think it's important to express because Scott is an incredibly valuable resource for everything related to war and international politics. Him being wrong one time out of 1000 doesn't invalidate his decades of excellent work.
