Yes, Charles is doing what we NEVER would be able to do, in the same situation.
He rushed to his mom’s deathbed, sudden and unexpected. That is terribly stressful!
No time to mourn. Duty dictates the new Monarch must hit-the-ground-running! The very next day, he must begin his speeches, travelling to every country in the United Kingdom. Meeting government leaders. More (very difficult) speeches, to some very difficult people. Signing extremely formal, legal documents on vellum. Though he already owns very good, expensive fountain pens, he is expected to use their (expensive) (formal) fountain-pens (which maybe aren’t so expensive!). The days are all a blur, obviously. He already wrote down the wrong date, messing up! Another fountain pen breaks and begins to leak! These documents are NOT xerox-able (to “re-do” and the pressure to keep the document “pristine,” is just another straw on the camel’s back. The letting off of some steam is so much to be expected!
(Personally, I would have sworn!)
But, Charles must not show emotion! (Historically, ‘emotion’ was taken to mean a “weakness” in the Monarch and therefore, a weakness in the Country! That, in-itself, is difficult to do for anyone! Charles is a man who is naturally sensitive. He reacted the way any, and all of us would, in that situation, by a short burst of steam.
Charles has shown immense strength over great grief and pressure.
He wants to take the people where cameras have never been allowed, and he shows himself to be very open, with a desire to be ‘in-touch’ with the citizens of his country.
I say, Right-on, Your Highness. It’s alright to show your Human-Side. None of us are Super-Human. We are all the same. Flesh and Blood.
God Save The King!
