It's easy to be the armchair quarterback, isn't it. The times and current "pre" post-pandemic economic conditions are much different today. What caused inflation and recession in the 1970's was different than what is causing it today. Interest rates are not near 10%, nor are we yet in a deep recession. To say simply "supply-side" economics is the silver bullet curing today's inflation is akin to recommending taking the flu shot from 5 years ago and expecting good protection from the virus today. We are coming out of one of the most significant economic disruptions of the century — the worldwide Covid pandemic, which negatively impacted businesses and individuals worldwide, which is what led us to where we are today. This is not the late 70's inflation/recession. Supply chains issues, worker shortages, the needed government stimulus response to these, and the global energy/war issues are the reason why we are in the condition we are today. Cut taxes with the expectation to solve the inflation problem right now, really? Trying to increase consumer demand right now via tax cuts, before the supply chain and worker shortage problems have become more balanced could have the reverse effect. Taxes need to be reasonable. There is always a balance between government taxation and freedom from too much of it. Do you like FEMA when your state is ravaged by storms? Do you like the arms of the military and associated agencies protecting your country? Do you like anti-trust and consumer protection services? Oh, oh, be careful, you might be sounding like a socialist.
