I think many of you posting comments here defending Trump, saying that the bank should evaluate the properties before approving any loans to him, aren't seeing the way his misrepresentation is the issue.
He wasn't applying for loans to buy specific property and the figures he stated on documents were inflated based upon a property he wanted to buy. His overvaluation of his own properties, making himself appear much wealthier on paper because of the value of his holdings was the issue.
It would be like if I were to apply for a loan and I claim to earn 150K per year when in fact I only earn 50K a year. I appear to be a very good candidate for a loan, and the wealthier you are, the lower the interest rate you have to agree to. That's defrauding the bank with false personal information.
Getting back to Trump, if he tells the bank that his Mar-a-Lago resort has this much square footage and is worth 750M, when it is in fact smaller in square footage as well as actual property value, he is giving false information regarding his personal assets.
Compound that with him reporting the value of all of his properties, including Scotland.
Is the bank supposed to send an appraiser to all of his properties in different states and even out of country to verify their value?

You tell the bank your property is worth 750M to get a better loan deal and you tell the IRS the property is worth significantly less to pay less taxes on it. That's illegal.
