It’s no shocker. Many Latinos look at blacks the same way white people do. Many of these lighter skinned Latino’s are recipients of light skinned privilege, even though they aren’t white and some of them have lived in that privileged space for so long, they begin to actually believe that white people accept them, even though those same white people are talking about them behind THEIR backs.
Many Latino’s who are lighter skinned have issues with Afro-Latinos, so it should come as no surprise that many of them feel the same or even worse about black people.
This woman apologized as if it were a one time occurrence, talking about how her anger got the best of her, but the fact of the matter is that she has been talking this way with those council members for a long time. Which is why they all felt completely comfortable with her speaking that way. The person who exposed that recording did so knowing that these people spoke that way all the time..
Character is who you are when nobody sees you. These people have none. They should all be gone and the history of their decisions about the community they are supposed to be serving fairly should be under a microscope.
This country will NEVER get past itself and racism against black people. It still chooses to ignore that it exists in it’s systems and institutions and in many cases protect and defend it, which is why as great as it is, it will never be as great as it COULD be.
I don't get what can compel a person to be so hateful
It is truly unfortunate retiring Councilman Gil Cedillo was part of this illegally recorded, private meeting. Knowing Gil for over two decades, from undocumented driver licenses ( a safety issue ) to senior citizen housing solutions in Chinatown to providing food during the pandemic, he has always fought for the underserved.
There should be a transcript of the entire meeting, words and phrases would have context. There have been no inappropriate statements by Gil Cedillo in any published accounts. The public is quick to condemn, and throw good people away. Al Franken is such an example.
Oh well. Maybe Nury can open a bogeda or slung breakfast tacos.

First of all this was an illegal recording under California Penal Code 632 and should have never been brought against them because it was a private conversation. The criminal that recorded this will be prosecuted. Secondly the word "chongo" is used commonly amongst the Brown Community. In fact I call my son monkey, not because I'm racist but because he's very active like one. And thirdly, once again another classic sneaky attack on Mexican Americans. They really don't want us in high places. Especially in politics! So they'll do some sneaky illegal s*** like this to make us look like the bad guys. Real talk, if all politicians were illegally recorded they all be fired!
Now speaking on a spiritual level we got evil spirits/fallen angels working through certain individuals, groups, corporations like these propaganda fake news channels trying to start a race war between Black & Brown.
