Nature intended barrier islands like Sanibel to be washed into the sea and moved around every once in a while. Only greedy real estate developers build houses, roads and buildings there. Only fools buy them.
If my house caught fire after a storm like that I’d let it burn to the ground! Fire insurance claims get paid out faster than hurricane or flood insurance claims.
Prayers to those on the island. If there’s any consolation, Florida is fortunate to have the best governor in the nation. DeSantis has operated on all cylinders and has done an excellent job with his team’s management and response to the hurricane.
And tell me again why they will rebuild their?
Please stop building homes on these islands Not worth it
ну вот появились дыры в своей стране куда доляры вбухивать
I'm going to video diary our recovery from the hurricane on St. James City Pine Island and Fort Myers on my channel. It's going to be a difficult journey but a great challenge to us all involved. Good luck to all.
Biden should have withheld federal aid to Florida and let it fall into the sea, like Trump did to California in 2019 when he let it burn to the ground. Biden is much greater of a man than any republican could ever be. Vote Blue 2024.
none of the video is actually sanibel, some is near sanibel
KARMA
I hope no Republicans were harmed
How is elon musk and bill gates an all them gonna watch things like this knowing they can help every single person out there and maybe only donate a small amount so they wont get any back lash
This will get much worse in the next few years, the south of the USA will become uninhabitable!
Why live or rebuild where this happens?
so really damm sad
No entiendo porque en estos Países en donde hay huracanes y tornados insisten en construir con material ligero? Literalmente casas de palos? Las de material sólido están intactas.
Parece que esta gente no ha leído el cuento del viento y los 3 chanchitos….
A giant meteor can be redirected or blown up…but a tornado can't. 🤔
Quick Quick, tell them again how Climate Change is a plot by Democrats to destroy their constitutional rights. For 30 years you were warned. You laughed and ignored the warnings.
Worse is yet to come. Large areas of Florida will be under the sea as sea levels rise.
And no one can imagine this could happen? Not even concrete and steel is failsafe from the perfect storm.
As a country we really need to discuss moving our people away from the coasts, hurricanes have gotten worse every year that goes by and we ignore it like we aren’t the main cause of it. It’s time to take responsibility and action, otherwise this will continue to happen, and people will continue to be killed. Global warming is a thing people, let’s stop tryna avoid the truth.
When you live on a barrier island you receive nice views, you also need to understand you are in a barrier island. The keyword is barrier, with the island being the first buffer for the mainland for storms. Rebuilding will be done
Heart sick! May God be with everyone ! So happy we visited Sanibel in August for 7 days. Our favorite vacation spot. Rebuild…we will come back!❤
Best wishes from Brasil! Our thoughts are with you all, stay strong U.S.A.!
What did y’all expect ?
In my opinion it's a bit strange we even built that roadway like that. Knowing it's susceptible to hurricanes, large waves and whatever an ocean can throw at a small island that's barely even there.
There's simply no way this wasn't thought of before Ian destroyed it. Money makes humans do some weird things.
it is an island.. wat do u expect?
Oh no so many millionaires lost their 2nd home! Just breaks my ❤️…NoT
Why the fk would anyone live on what is basically a skinny island in the middle of the ocean
i feel so much for the sanibel/captiva residents.. its so crazy how bad the damage is
Barrier islands are coastal landforms and a type of dune system that are exceptionally flat or lumpy areas of sand that form by wave and tidal action parallel to the mainland coast.
Proves how small we are compared to mother nature….
Storm Putin
The hard truth is don't build on a barrier island/beach what you can't afford to loose. This was true in the past and is becoming more and more true as global warming bites harder and harder.
People need to stop living in low land areas, when does common sense kick in. I feel for their lost but this all honestly could have been avoided. 🙏
So sad to see so much destruction. We are lucky here that for last few years here typhoons lose steam when they reach us in Shanghai…
Man made done on purpose pushing people closer to middle cities
I cannot get over the widespread devastation from Ian..It 💔😭 breaks my heart to see that Florida looks like a war zone. Global warming & climate change have forever altered our weather ☁️🌡️ patterns.
Like the christian conservatives claimed god was punishing citizens of New Orleans with hurricane katrina in 2005, I guess god is punishing these citizens of Sanibel in 2022.
My fishing spot is gone 😭
but for god's sake let's not utilize any government regulation to limit coastal development!!! OMG!
Kamala Harris – giving resources based on equity – Hurrican IAN rescue and relief -Kamala Harris wants black communities/people saved and assisted first.
The whole Island should Never be Inhabited Again, Condemn it, and Cut Your Losses..
The residents of Sanibel were very unfriendly to tourists thinking they were some kind of elite. I guess nature showed them . Sad
Dios mio que fuerte
I live in Altamonte springs FL, we still have no power today at noon on the first of Oct. It's has been out for 58 hrs now. Since 2:00 AM on Thursday. Charged my phone up in my car. Hoping to god it comes back. My neighborhood is flooded and this is all very devastating. And even other people here have it worse. I see this and it makes me cry. I've lived in Florida for 32 years. And this one hurts more for some reason. And we're just down here trying to grind through now. It may be a bit yet. But we're FloStrong!
They can fix that. Just have to lay new asphalt down after fixing the sand underneath.
