I'm South African and was a great fan of Jon Stewart, watching the Daily Show back then every opportunity I got…recording episodes on my VCR back in the day…. even I stopped watching the moment Trevor took over…couldn't bear to watch him. If it wasn't for his army of writers, he wouldn't have lasted that long

I think reduction of audience from 2.5 million to 300,000 is almost 1/8th dip and that can't be explained just on the basis of audience tuning to youtube, nor it can be offset by racial profiling of audience and calling it diverse. I think audience showed how tired they were of is unfunny commentary, ranting on and on about Trump even after he was long gone. You can always churn numbers in someway to show you the highlight, but if you are democracy you have got to take that message that nearly 2 million people voted you down, so it doesn't matter whether it brought 12k (87k vs 75k) audience of color. It just indicates that he was universally unfunny and even after ranting about racism, less than 25% of his audience was of color, the one he was rooting for. That's how I feel Hollywood has got it wrong. World needs to address racism, but it needs to acknowledge that now is as good as time as any in terms of inter race relations, and though we could always get better, there bigger problems and challenges facing the world, just not identity politics.

The comparison about John Stewart and Trevor Noah’s viewership is unfair. Time has changed, and judging the popularity through tv ratings is not an authentic and accurate assessment now of people’s interest. TV is no longer indispensable. There are so many platforms for entertainment. The Daily Show with Trevor has over 10 million subscribers and he’s one of the most watched on YouTube.
It’s hilarious that someone would even attempt to blame his ratings on younger peoples shorter attention spans- of course said in a more vague/ cushioned way. As if it’s not that he was a remarkably unfunny, dim, obvious puppet for the establishment- or to put it simply- a blind diversity hire who didn’t deserve the role. To think young people who watch are dumb enough to find the hidden humor in his show, and that the other part of young people don’t watch don’t see right through the establishment propaganda and strait up bullshit is a clear sign that whoever is making these decisions at Comedy Central is completely senseless and has sunk the ship beyond any hope of saving it.
Congrats on writing off anyone that called your blow hard bullshit out, and against common judgement, tanked one of the highest if not THE highest watched nightly show during John’s tenure as host. It’s a disgrace, truly.
The only hope to ever rekinder the show would be to bring in someone that’s ACTUALLY funny and someone who’s not a partisan hack that calls out bullshit on both sides, just like it was when the show was a hit.
