Oil companies had massive losses in 2020. The losses were all theirs. Now they are making up those losses with big profits. Biden thinks those profits should go to the government. No industry could stay in business with that approach. And the guest did hit on one important aspect of why the proposed windfall profits task would not only not work, but would be a disaster. To produce oil there has to be continual investment to keep production up, let alone make it higher. If the govt takes away that extra money, future production will fall and future prices will be even higher than they would have.
