The debate isn't whether we should have a flat tax. It's for what are we being taxed? Taxes are not obligatory. They are laws. As such, the debate should always be about government spending, not how to tax Americans! Government today exists for itself, to prolierate itself, to expand itself.
People are not looking for "examples" from government or even their elected officials. Americans now demand responses to their grievances and action on the policies they abhor. In the words of Lee Iacocca, "Lead, folow, or get out of the way."

Recession is coming and if you lose your job you need your social benefits to survive. Republicans will never help you with social benefits, they never will help you to survive and winter is coming. They will not be able to accomplish anything in the next 2 years if they get the House and the Senate because Biden will veto all the laws.
