I'm a Baruch graduate from the early 1970s. Great business education. The reason Fordham finds it so hard to recruit minorities is the price of tuition. CUNY has always been dedicated to no/low cost college education for NYC residents. With that barrier to attendance greatly reduced, no wonder it is easy for Baruch to have such a diverse student body.
Until this country values education for ALL its citizens at EVERY level (from pre-K to college) and for educators at all public institutions to get the respect and salary they deserve, we will continue to be woefully underserved and under-educated as a nation.
Lowering test scores and having quotas for races/gender is discrimination period. Just like fast tracking people past where their experience warrants in certain career fields just because they meet a few check boxes. This doesn't just apply to college this applies to many things such as fire departments having lower standards in many cases for women who wanna be firefighters and certain branches and units of the military lowering the fitness requirements. Any quota based system or system that lowers the standards for one group is discrimination against everyone else that doesn't get that added bonus. Didn't one study show that AA actually increased minority dropout rates during college because many were accepted via AA were put in mismatch institutions just to look diverse and instead of their merit.
I know growing up in crappy trailerparks most of my life tons of white people on government assistance and dropping out of school early or scoring low on tests. What about them?
Correction: "Affirmative action was Developed in the 1960s and '70s in part to ensure opportunity through decades of inequality and racism that kept BLACK people on the margins of higher education".. it's been well documented there were no "people of color" being denied anything the only people who were being denied in huge numbers were black people and that's why we have affirmative action!
White, yellow, brown, black..that's the order of acceptance into these schools…and Dont be fooled with the people of color bs..affirmative action was put in place for BLACK people not people of color, people of color means non black and or a darker shade of white

Black people can not continue playing checkers while the new white supremacist movement is playing chess. The last couple years years have seen a revival of far right ideology among a large segment of the white population. The intense racial polarization in the white population reveals millions of white OK and accepting of black, (dark) Latinos etc versus whites who never accepted civil rights laws, desegregation and all that it implied. Trump gave them a home for their old beliefs politically that the old republican party did not provide. The nation's has made great progress in racial equity and fairness in areas accepting of diverse population without grudging acceptance and restrictions in place in other large parts of the country with vast majority white populations, trump country. White communities and enclaves where the only black people they see on a regular bases is on TV. And they like it that way. And rail against black people's communities they know nothing about specifically. Except vague perceptions informed by stereotypes, rumors, generational anecdotal stories, dubious statistics etc etc.
Stop saying “minority” Just say blacks and brown”. Asians are minority and yet we are discriminated in all of elite universities across America. These American media try hardest show how AA befits “minority”. SC is hearing case against NC and Harvard is because these universities and other higher institutions in America try damn hardest to limit Asian students in American Universities. FU American media!!! They never interview Asian students or Asian parents!! They only interview whites, blacks and brown people regarding AA in university!!!
I hope this includes gender. White women are the largest recipients for affirmative action; let's stop the propaganda.
If you go to an Asian, Latino, or Black Country they give eff all about the amount of white students and definitely don’t care if they attend. But in this country we have to cater and in a lot of cases pay for their tuition.
Getting a free education, simply because of your race is in fact, racist.
I am so sick of the mainstream media constantly excluding asians from the minority community when many of them experienced a lot more hardships than Black and Brown. And that in itself is a huge problem in this country that no one seems willing to talk about
It is one thing to strive for diversity and another to establish racist policies that turn away students based upon their skin color. Today we have racism against Asian and other students because of these policies. Solution: Focus upon improving the quality of our inner city high schools. I attended a very poor inner city HS. So I attended a public university and studied very, very hard taking Summer classes each Summer at college to improve my math skills. In the end I was successful and achieved my B.S. degree in chiemistry. Reverse discrimination can not be tolerated as well as discrimination.

The congressional black caucus, NFL and NBA sure haven't used affirmative action, that's right you would be labeled a racist if you said you need to have more whites or asians.
It's enough already. Yes, college is a meritocracy; it is supposed to be a meritocracy. I'd rather have the best brain surgeon than the affirmative-action brain surgeon who was not actually qualified but got a hand-up by lower standards imposed by #affirmativeaction.
Should be based on qualifications alone. They need to do away too with the race and gender questions on employment applications. I know they are "optional" but I can see some left-leaning liberal HR screener discarding applications simply because they checked the "Prefer Not to Answer" box.
The society should help the poor black kids. But helping them via the Affirmative Action is a very bad idea because it's too late. Poor black kids need to be helped when they are in primary schools, in order to give them equal opportunities. Lowering the bar for them to get into colleges is cheating to get equal outcome which should be illegal. The society should strive for equal opportunity instead of equal outcome. If we lower the bar for blacks for college admission, what about lowering the qualification score of board exam for doctors for blacks? What about lowering the bars for all kinds of professional certification tests for blacks? The answer is obvious. If you want to help the blacks, help them early instead of late when they are evaluated.
We need white nationalism.
