I hate when people refer to the USA as a democracy. We are not, nor have we ever been a democracy. We are a constitutional republic with layers of democracy. The electoral college all by itself (even if you don’t like it) should be plenty of evidence that we are NOT a democracy and that we have only layers of democracy. I wouldn’t even want us to become a democracy. I actually like our constitution and the idea of freedom and that everyone has rights, not privileges if they are a citizen. I do believe in affording foreign nationals who are here for a visit some rights as well. Just not voting and things like that.
