all signs pointed to 'no go' on launch – a tragic but almost self inflicted accident aired live on TV for all of America to see … in some ways it was indicative of the type of life / running of life / incompetence / leissaz faire attitude that started in the 1990s onwards
I was in Kindergarten when the disaster happened. Only thing I really remember was coming home from school and seeing my mom sitting on the floor staring at the TV with tears in her eyes.
So sad…I'll never forget when I read Christa McAuliffe's words to her husband before she left: "You feed the kids, I'll feed the fish!"
I can't believe it's been thirty years ago. I'm so glad nothing has happened like this since.
Has anyone found any remains of the astronauts?
What a waste of money to recover it. Just leave it, Nasa.
Cape CADAVER-al.
They call the family members every time they find a piece of debris???
Another waste of taxpayer money.
THEIR MEMORY WILL LAST WELL INTO THE FUTURE AND WAY BEYOND!!! FOR THEY DID NOT PERISH IN VAIN!!!!
"Go at throttle up".. the last words ever heard by the crew of Challenger.
RIP
I was down there behind the countdown clock watching it go up. WOW
A great ad for this documentary. What a cras way to advertise it! But…..that is who we are! Selling soap.
We really overusing the word hero. As far as shuttle launches go they ain't accomplish much. At least in Columbia they did their mission and came back… mostly.
OMG, this is amazing. Any survivors?
Lets be honest men and women.
The money and time spent on this so called space exploration when there are so many ills in society is bizarre!
Clearly the regular everyday flesh and blood man and women do not benefit at all from any of this and if there is a percieved benefit it is simply to reinforce the narrative that space must be explored at all cost.
The first Kennedy space flight director was paperclipped!
Kurt H. Debus was member of the National Socilaist Party, the Sturmabteilung or Brownshirts (paramilitary wing of the National Socilaist Party) and the Schutzstaffel or the SS.
See "Operation Paperclip"
NASA = Nationals American Socilaist Administration
I love how even the fish found it interesting
Ahh, that happened in 1986! I'm blown away that they haven't picked up the wreckage debris field up way before this!!
I still masturbate to the original video
were they OK then ?
This was the first mass casualty event broadcast everywhere to capture the minds of the people
How come when you look these people up there still alive most changed there name 2 had identical twins convienintly
Watched it happen live on tv, was home sick, will never ever forget the look on the crowds face when they realized this wasnβt part of the launchβ¦.
The challenger wasn't an accident, it was human error. Human error equates to tragedy. If I accidentally killed someone I'm sure I would go to jail in 2022. Why does the government get away with the word i accidentally messed up." accidents π ???
To be more specific, it was determined that the shuttle was doomed due to the corruption of NASA officials who knew of the shortcomings of the seals and went ahead with the launch anyway. Horribly sad.
Putin did it?
That's a large piece of the shuttle left to discover. RIP to the crew, I watched this happen live in skool. Something I will never forget next to seeing the towers fall in real time also.
I was 6 years old, watching it at my Grandparents house. I was too young to understand it at the time. I remember it as if it happened yesterday. ππ½ππ½

Just leave it in the ocean
Crazy how that happens right before SLS launches. That's just way too big of a coincidence and to be reported in this timeliness feels horrifically motivated
that accident was one sad day for america.
Study for future missions, lol.. someone tell NASA officials they retired the shuttle. Typical, 36 year old wreckage and they want to waste tax payer dollars recovering it.
Wow, actual history on the history channel. I'm shocked. If they didn't include that they were looking for wreckage I'd assume they were hunting the Loch Ness monster.
1 week before Artemus takes off π riiiiighttttt π
