Lets see. Democrats get huge campaign donations from unions. Democrats stay in power. Immediately after the election, teachers, civil servants, auto workers, railroads, longshoremen all go on strike. All of them were big contributors to Democrats. When Democrats are talking wage and price controls for the rest of us, their unions are killing the supply chain and extorting us for higher wages. Democrats own lack of integrity is whats preventing action on the economy, not Republicans' blocking further spending.
Being an EXrailroad hoghead I get the instant 'rollingmyfkneyes' look every time folks mention strikes and fail to mention the 1000s of SCABS the railroads have waiting in line to keep the trains moving. Union Railroad train and enginemen employees have 'job insurance'. They literally get paid a percentage of their daily pay if laid off. Give em more money, they'll do the same thing the next time a Democrat is elected POTUS, thats a promise.

Art Laffer and many others need to educate themselves if they want to talk about railroad contracts. These negotiations have not been about wages for several decades. They are about the inability to take time off. The railroads have been tightening attendance policies constantly. Money is one thing. Constantly being away from home and your families is another. Freight crews regularly miss birthdays, ball games, school activities, and holidays. Divorces are common. Children become alienated from their fathers. The wages, retirement income, and health insurance become a yoke around the neck of the employees.

The digital economy is wired much more tightly than 40 years ago, for Powell to jack up rates too much Volker style and/or let them seek their own level like water; so incremental increases are the norm. If that style of manipulation were to happen today massive volatility would follow. Anytime external control factors are put in place by government there is interference in the free market, and the market wins the argument either way.
