Very nice… now ask them about how they joined the confederacy and was pro slavery..
It's a damn shame the natives never put aside their differences and fought against the white man
Stocks are good but I swapped and invested in Forex and Bitcoin trading I've been making good profit
Get voted into the seat.
They are getting what they want a foot in the door yet African Americans are still waiting .
Why have they not filed a lawsuit against the federal government
What’s fair is fair.
Red skin injuns😡
I'm afraid I'm out of the loop on this one, but I'm not exactly sure what they are aiming for. Yeah, the US government has broken a LOT of treaties with the tribes and that needs to be dealt with. But I don't understand why the Cherokee tribe wants an actual seat in Congress. Native Americans can vote like everyone else, we have Native Americans in Congress, both the House and the Senate, right now from various states. More and more Native Americans are coming out of the reservations to serve in both state and federal government. Thus we are seeing them getting more representation even if it's not as fast as they would prefer; you gotta start somewhere.
So what exactly are they aiming for? For one, I'm not even sure we can even add another chair into the Senate Chamber given it's massive already. And what about the other tribes and even the territories (including DC)? Frankly, it's not fair to them if only one tribe gets a seat and they don't. Besides, under the law, the tribes aren't states or territories; they are technically semi independent nations. Short of following the US Constitution, they are free to do as they please. Hence why gambling is legal on reservations when most states have made it illegal.
To be honest, I thought that if anyone would put up the notion of a seat, it would be the Navajo given they have the largest reservation and population out of all the tribes. The reservation is bigger than some states and even European countries.
Hawaiians still have no treaty the US just took Hawaii and put up bases..
Ashley Joy, volunteered to join our protest and help us distribute leaflets. take down the ccp! https://youtu.be/g7L0kgp79oI
"Jackson administration"? The founding father of the Democratic Party, you mean? 🤔
The Republicans have Abraham Lincoln. 😁
Sounds racist to me, run like everyone else. If you deserve it, you'll get it. Unconstitutional request.
A promise 200 years ago? How can that be…
$5 Indians
We indians have learned NOTHING from history. They didn't honor any of our other treaties. What makes you think they'll honor it now? They don't even care about the thousands of missing and murdered indigenous women these last few years, only when a mass shooting happens then they care! You cannot seriously be trusting this government! 🤷
Why don't we allow for every Native American tribe to have a representative in Congress voted amongst their own people of their tribe? I don't see any reasons why not.
The Cherokee can also abide by the treaty by black American Freedman who were enslaved by the Cherokee , to be a part of their tribe, and receive their fair share, equitable share of land and financial services
Same can be said about reparations for descendants of USA chattel slavery
Step up Congress
Yyyyyeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssss
The time came and went a very long time ago, I don’t understand why it’s important to make good on that promise Now all that time later when all the damage has been done and literally nothing will come out of it
You'd think the virtue signaling left would be lining up to surrender one of THEIR seats to give natives their representation
It has always baffled me how over 400 First Nations didn’t even have representation in congress!! 🤯 Being that obviously the Capitol Building can’t fit 400 new seats, I always thought of the Tribes allying into 10 or so groups, either based on proximity or most closely-shared interests, and electing officials to represent the Tribes in each group as a whole in Washington. But since the actual population number in all of the 400+ Nations still in existence equal the amount in a single state, maybe the Cherokee will be sufficient in representing all of them.
I grew up in Oklahoma with many Native friends. If the US Government doesn't step up…don't ever stand down until they DO.
The US Government will NEVER step up. They NEVER DO.
Get this done.
