Even though I barely watch Kudlow, I agree that these railroad workers need their paid sick leave so we can prevent a economic disaster if a strike were to happen.
I almost always side with management in labor disputes – the unions typically ask for costly “benefits” that make their industries uncompetitive and ultimately cost jobs (just look at the American auto industry). But, this time, I have to side with the railroad workers. Rail management has been cutting positions and salaries for years, creating an unproductive adversarial relationship. Lord knows, railroads used to be run so inefficiently because of labor laws and unreasonable contracts that they were almost all on the verge of bankruptcy. Surely, reasonable management could have found a way to make this work. I know, it’s never as simple as it looks. A key railroad worker calling in sick can disrupt schedules, but there have to be better solutions than this.
Sounds to me they wanted the sick leave more so than the double digit pay raise. After all if your sick your not making any money. 🤷
