Chinese authorities are cracking down on protests over its stifling ‘zero-Covid’ policy. Some streets in major cities are walled up and police are even searching through phones to see if people may be connected to the demonstrations. NBC News’ Janis Mackey Frayer has more from Beijing.

Schizophrenia, double standards, and hypocrisy in full display when western leaders talk about protests. These 2 versions are given by the same leader. Version1 (about protests in China) – "Everyone in China should be allowed to protest. We will continue to ensure that China knows we will stand for human rights and with people who are expressing themselves". Version2 (about protests in his own country)- "If you join the protest because you're tired of covid, you now need to understand you are breaking the law'.
