STUART VARNEY: So, it’s come to this: Walmart, America’s biggest bricks and mortar retailer, has issued a warning about shoplifting. It’s so bad that they may have to close stores and raise prices. We’re all going to pay for this.
In the retail business, it’s called shrinkage. How much of the stuff on the shelves is stolen.
It runs to billions a year at Walmart, and the CEO says it’s getting worse.

Maybe they should do away with self checkout at stores. I use them almost exclusively. Better than standing in line. And, I use to work retail so I’m hip to barcodes. But if that’s where the million dollar leak is happening, get rid of ‘em!
One employee cannot watch all 8 self checkout registers. There’s always some employee at the exit checking receipts. But they’re not always on it. One could easily slip by while they’re otherwise engaged. Theft has been here since earth’s inception. Animals steal other predators kills. An eagle will snatch another bird outta the air, just for the food it’s carrying. Ben Franklin didn’t want the eagle to be America’s National bird. He said that they had low moral character. True. They’d rather steal a meal than hunt for one. The entire species on this planet steals. They need more loss prevention people working the floor. All surreptitiously as if they’re shopping too. Gotcha!
