I think his motive was to keep the financials sealed up. I think his wife wanted a divorce which would've forced him to hand over the family's bank records to an attorney which would've inevitably turned up lots of unaccounted cash. He killed them both hoping to sell it as a vigilante killing for the Mallory Beach incident.

If this truly is one of the prosecution's theories, it doesn't bode well for the rest of their case against Murdaugh. There were other, equally nefarious abd more plausible motives for him to murder.
