Celine Dione's issue should be highlighted as Disability. People's reactions to most legit disabilities is, "You look alright to me."
I was hit by a car and became disabled, for about two years I couldn't walk more than to get to the toilet and back, on crutches, and even that took tremendous effort. Since then, I could put on a good show of 'ability' for about half an hour at the most. I still wait for buses and trains to completely stop before standing up to exit because I don't want to go flying. It's embarrassing often to the point of tears. But Celine Dione 'looks alright to me' right?
It's a fight every day.
Why would we give up on high paying and personally meaningful work if we were just faking it. She's just at the start of this, so it hasn't sunk in yet, but people are going to say she's not really disabled, that she just doesn't want to do it anymore, that she wants attention, that her talent and fame were fading anyway and so this is mostly a publicity stunt. It isn't.
Nobody wants to be disabled.
