The Department of Energy is expected to announce a major development regarding fusion energy on Tuesday. Alex Gilbert, fellow at the Payne Institute, discusses the significance of this potential discovery.

Let's say you build these fancy machines then there's a war now they can just Target those facilities and then you're done. With solar and wind is scattered all over the place
We got a fusion reactors right up there in the sky
40% of the power is coming from Renewables now what do we need this for we're on the road right Road with solar wind.
I think some Republicans want some money for projects that are going to take a while since we get off the ground I think the discussion needs to go to politics the engineers need to prove it out on a timeline basis cost analysis before any money goes to something like that.
This is great news, BUT, the fact is we will all be long-dead by the time this powers the world…
So they say the physics is still worked out. They've known the physics of this for a long time. They're looking to get your money. Solar power plants can control your power. Solar wind should be invested with more it's great at 40% of the electricity we're using now the Private Industry wants to put money towards trying to build a fusion reactors let them but I don't believe public money should be going forward to this. Unless it's going to be free energy and utility bills for all Americans in the future.
Sounds like a lot of research, money and time still needs to be invested into this technology before we actually see a commercial product.
What's also a bit strange, it's usually scientist who make these announcements, not government officials
Nothing but disaster clips and democrats propaganda from this fake news
As someone from Alberta, an Oil and Gas economy, I wonder how the Oil and Gas sectors will react to this…
More energy output than energy input. That demolishes the argument of the impossibility of perpetual motion machines. Or, is that just the output stage of fusion? And it turns out that when you add the energy requirements of preparing material the sum of these is greater than the output of fusion energy? What about the second law of thermodynamics? Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.
Also send all asian isis types to be processed if hypnotised and bugged
So much courage and admire the way how Scientists are doing well Research. We love it, that is what US Educations are truly need it , Thanks for the Research makers
More energy going out than coming in
That's against the laws of thermo dynamic
psssst…. it's a sham
Less than 4 decades 😁👍
THank you for not inviting Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Visit that facility back in the 80s, fusion was supposed to be just around the corner? It's a shame they can't help out Focus Fusion they done some amazing things considering their budget restraints.
The earth is already giving that energy for free underground. It's just a matter of inventing the drilling tools that wouldn't melt from that extremely high temperature and that heat is about 8 miles deep.
1 year with Elon 😮
I'm an aeronautical engineer with a minor and electronics I like to think I'm a fairly intelligent guy I've worked with lasers I work with energy sources I've even worked with NASA projects Advanced weapons projects. But the language this guy is using was even a bit of a stretch for myself not that I'm the smartest person when it comes to nuclear energy but I know a thing or two. I hope this comment makes it to the gentleman who was explaining his field please please use more simple language to sell this because the world needs clean energy we need what your company is producing. But the company might need to give you a little training on making that information more readily digestible to the average environmental do good or investor just my two cents I'm not an expert in your field thank you for what you're doing.
Joseph R. Biden makes America great again !
Thank you Biden administration.
Fantastic! Expect energy prices to fall through the floor. OPEC should stop limiting supply and sell while they still can.
Answer some of the questions below.
(1) This is different from a bomb in that it burns small bits of fuel with a laser, so if something goes wrong nothing bad happens. Another difference is you cannot simply build a power plant around a nuclear bomb and harvest the energy to do useful things.
(2) This is exciting because it's a milestone but the press conference stated that the first actual power plant that uses lasers in this way to generate energy for the public consumption is still 20-40 years away. But at least we know it's possible to do.
(3) Yes it was disheartening to hear several speakers talking about the strategic deterrent implications of this research. One would have thought their comments would stick to the science and public good. Bragging about the US strategic deterrent, which was not even in question, does nothing except bait other countries that aren't protected by our nuclear umbrella to put more resources into nuclear weapons. This was a fail and "own goal" at what would otherwise have been an entirely positive press conference.
(4) There are other forms of fuzion energy generation that will probably benefit from the knowledge that it's possible to achieve net gain. This will promote private industry to put more money into those projects. And it will invite more bright engineers to join a field of research that has often been the brunt of jokes (fuzion is always 40 years away, haha). This will lead to acceleration of discovery across the board.
University of Utah did it in 1989.
I thought ethanol did that. Haha 😂
He didn't tell us when this can be builds.
Please keep this technology at home and builds this fast. Now please
So it's the first step towards Star Trek is it?
So happy.
We are going to call the prince of Saudi and say you go hang out with Putin we don't need you anymore. Lol
I don't think the world would last 10 more years but good luck with that
I thought the Brits did this 10 months ago.
Lol we really do need the living that will never run dry.
Lol is this deception again
This announcement was asked to make at this time …
To spread the message that
Alternative clean Energy supply is coming replacing oil and gas that Russia and middle east countries are selling will have to be abandoned.
It’s a carrot for the climate alarmist. It’s cool but probably another 30

Within a decade, I'll believe it when I see it.
I like the phrase "inflection point" that is used here. It emphasizes the fact that we're still far from reaching the finish line, but that scientific breakeven is still a critical step in getting there. I feel like this whole video is very clear about the biggest nuances of this achievement.
So you saying the main energy source would be Hydrogen base?
“Inflection point” is an understatement.
ELON MUSK needs to take control of
This (HE'S THE SHAKER AND MOVING FORCE) THESE DAYS
Put Trump down the mine to dig 4 more “ Clean Coal “ 😮😮😮
Where's hunter's story?
Democrats desperately trying to twist the narrative and distract America from what a mess they are making of our country and the world
1. Arab countries (with oil), building extreme mega projects
2. The western world completely ignoring the fact that Russia used to supply most of their energy and choosing to openly defy them
3. The western world getting rid of petrol and diesel cars slowly but surely
I think they’ve done it. Why else would the west risk so much? Because they are comfortable knowing that energy cannot be used to bend them over anymore😂
I guess this is goodbye to every country that relied on oil to fuel their economy and manipulate other countries. I give them 5 years, tops…
Icredible and fantastic …there is hope
THORIUM before fusion in the meantime, please.
No more high pressure kettles.
We already have a working thermonuclear reactor. It's called the Sun. It beams energy to us, without wires or cables, 24/7. It's perfectly safe at a distance of 93 million miles and will last for 5 billion years. It's stable and will never go supernova. The energy it sends to us is free of charge, there for the taking if we wish. We already use it to power agriculture (photosynthesis). The Sun sends enough energy to Earth, in just one 24-hour day, to power global industry for a whole year. Why aren't we better utilizing this resource?
