The Inflation Reduction Act provides a tax credit for people buying an electric vehicle, however, the requirements make it complicated to get. NBC News’ Anne Thompson spoke with one couple about their decision to buy an EV rather than a gas powered SUV.

  1. Does the EV tax credit apply to plug in hybrids?

  2. FYI, Electric cars existed even before gas cars. Check history. Now that we better infrastructure and better batteries (unlike huge acid batteries back in the day), EVs are more logical and more fun to drive than ever before

  3. U get into a the small accident it's no good it's junk you can't drive its nothing like gas vehicle diesel you get into fender accident are you still drive away

  4. My daughter had to do this trying to get a Kona EV. But then switched to a new 2023 HRV when the new EV bill went into effect.

  5. Mexico is north America!…So if is assembled in Mexico it's okay?

  6. Let you know you are still using gas at the charging stations and another thing and the grid is overrun they going to tell you do not charge your car the only way you can charge your car you have to cough up money for a gas generator

  7. They didn't check the cost of maintenance battery replacements cost a lot of money you can't take it to your AutoZone and get a new battery you got to take it to a certified dealership and then check the warranty too Tesla only gives 8 year Hyundai gives 10 years of warranty

  8. For the gas guzzling dinosaurs, electricity is free so enjoy your $10 a gallon gas 😂 lololol

  9. No one in their right mind wants an EV except a few nutjobs in California.

  10. Petroleum isn't just for gasoline !!
Car parts like dashboard, knobs, door hands, blinker stick…
    Make up
    Deodorant
    Almost all plastics
    Toothpaste
    Soup
The list goes on, over 100 everyday items are petroleum based.
Only the truly dead inside can't see that TRUTH !!

  11. It's just official government scams to make people fools

  12. That is right…😊👏🏽

  13. Drive electric ⚡️ and say bye bye to the pumps

  14. Mainstream Middle Class = White People. Thanks for excluding the majority of black and brown people disadvantaged by poverty

  15. EV's are good as 2nd cars for daily driving and short road trips.

  16. What happens when you can't charge it then what? If power is out do to a storm..then what you just set!! Seriously

  17. That sounded insanely complicated

  18. You want to do your part to save the planet ride a bike e vehicle are just another way for government to make u think they care while making money

  19. Amazing videos and thank you for breaking it down!! Despite the economic downturn, I’m so happy I have been earning $ 55,000 returns from my $9,000 investment every 14 days.

  20. Better hope that battery don’t die or they’re screwed those batteries in EVS are extremely expensive

  21. The income cap means I’d effectively have to pay $10k more than an electric car is worth. Auto manufacturers price in the discount. No thanks. Sticking to gas.

  22. Is there any validity to the argument against EV's regarding the Damage Done to the environment in the Manufacturing there of and the amount of fossil fuel used to move them down the road?

  23. I like seeing people excited about their new car. Good for them!
Can we put aside the politicization of EVs for a moment and just appreciate their joy? 🎄

  24. Why is that car so loud? Many newer gas engines aren't that loud.

  25. Wtf are all these restricting? That's stupid. Either give a tax credit or don't. All these extra restrictions. That's trash.

  26. If they were concerned about the planet 🌎 they would’ve purchased a used gas power car instead of toxic batteries and a new car being made by fossil fuel

  27. Yeah, those spread sheets almost certainly have biases. You'll likely pay about 25% per mile of what you'd pay for gas charging from the grid, but you're absolutely an early adopter and should expect to run into the sorts of issues early adopters often run into.

Buying new is generally a total waste of money too & smaller vehicles are a lot less safe than bigger ones.

I bought a 6 year old Turbo Charged 4 cylinder SUV (now ten years old), no rust, for $11k and put about $1k a year tops into it in gas, so about $750/year more than an equivalent electric. You'd be talking $60k+ for a new electric equivalent. The break even for a new electric SUV would be 65 years…less if compared to a new gas vehicle, perhaps 20 years or more.

I appreciate people who like wasting money though since it means I get to save money buying their used vehicles later. I'll probably drive my SUV for another ten years before I get a used electric.

I'll have installed solar onto my house by then, which is a much better investment than a new electric vehicle, generating about $4k-$6k per year worth of green energy (30k+30k) for 50++ years on a $60k-ish investment.

  28. In the video it says "how much do electric cars save" The answer is nothing it's actually much much more expensive than a gas combustion engine. Charging the car is not free and actually more expensive than gas. Unless they bring the costs way down for the battery's and charging it's simply out of reach for the average American.

  29. Electric cars are great until you have to replace the battery to the tune of $20,000 -> $40,000 USD.

  30. They are a bit behind times in Massachusetts… In California this was 6-8 years ago if not earlier…

  31. This is a well thought out policy so that the targeted income group can afford to go green and ensure the advantages do not go to only one o two manufacturer

  32. what 200,000 limit? that was the previous credit. and who is the couple/ since the credit doesnt go into effevt until jan 1 2023, are you idiots mixing the old credit with the new credit? is this 5 year old video just put back out? how inept is NBC?? very very very very inept.

  33. This whole EV movement, sure it may help with the planet/pollution. Yet literally nobody is talking about.. how does this effect the power grid of the majority is charging? What if the power grid goes out and the majority is on EVs? There’s so much more to this when you think about it. I’ll never drive a non gas vehicle.
