Well up here in the north we don't leave food out on our porch because these types of things happen kind of lucky there wasn't a sidekick raccoon to help that bear out he probably would have took the salad!
(S)He's saving your health. One day I was walking home when passing someone walking her dog, the dog suddenly went wild. The human said she was shocked because the dog never behaved like that before; I explained, "I have a super delicious roast beef sandwich in this bag."
Another time, post 9/11 cycling event, a police dog started going nuts over one person's bag, but not like it was trained to do when identifying explosives. The rider said, "Peanut butter sandwiches." We all laughed, including the cop, who said, "That explains it."
