Great Test Match: Head & Verreynne proved that sound batting technique would yield positive results. Protea batting woes from England followed them. Globally an entire generation have come up on wickets that are way too flat, making even the best correctly seem suspect. For the record the brief innings Smith played in the first dig produced more attractive strokeplay than some of his centuries. I feel that in a long summer there should be two games with pitches like this: Zondo, Head, Verreynne, Cummins, Rabada, Starc were superb; Boland needs selecting for Melbourne; Hazlewood for Sydney. Commiserations South Africa; I would love to see Keegan Petersen in Melbourne & perhaps Shamsi. Honourable mentions Green, Lyon, Ngidi & Nortje.

Pitch must be heaven for bowlers. Rarely do you see such pitches these days. Fun to watch. On a side note, anyone else find it jarring and very annoying hearing the high pitched shouting of the female commentator every time a wicket fell? Please leave the men’s game alone!
