** UPDATE ** He was FOUND safe and well, and reunited with his mother in Lyon, France before flying home to the US about a day ago.
"American college student Kenny DeLand Jr. has been reunited with his mother in Lyon, France, and is on his way back to the U.S., according to a French diplomatic official. DeLand Jr., who was reported missing more than two weeks ago in France, told relatives on Friday that he was safe in Spain, his family said. The student voluntarily went to Spain after meeting some people who suggested he visit there." – ABC 25 wpbf.

The expat community in France sent out alerts to look for this guy Obviously not responsible enough and maybe has some mental health issues his parents shouldn't have let him go as obviously not up to being on his own
It's quite normal to have difficulty settling in in a new country, especially in the EU. Speak to immigrants, or temporary students even to the US and see how hard it is for them to settle! People in these countries tend not to make close friends easily. That doesn't mean you give up, or throw yourself off a train! It takes time! It's part of the process!
