My family has basically given up on getting together for the holidays now. Not only is it incredibly expensive, but it's far more likely to be chaotic at the airport. Last year the Omicron wave hit just before Christmas and shut down our plans. Pure covid with no vaccine the year before that. And since many of my family lives in Australia, 2019 saw the massive bushfires that caused far too many of them having to be on alert in case a fire came towards their place.
