Americans are estimated to return around $171 billion in merchandise this holiday season but 60 percent of retailers are changing return rules, many making it harder to give items back. NBC News’ Brian Cheung has more details about what shoppers need to know.

They SHOULD make it harder for people to return things around the holidays. People make too many unnecessary purchases and take things away from people who could have actually benefited or wanted the item to begin with. That lady in the video is a gross example. If you really think people don't know your taste, tell them not to get you anything. Returning a bunch of gifts is in very bad taste. If you feel you don't have a need for something, donate it. It's not like she spent any money on those things anyway.
The customer is not always right…
In fact I say the customer is rarely right…
F you if you return an item that is not defective or broken……
Free shipping and unlimited returns just because you changed your mind is not Free…..
This costs money….
You give an inch….
They take 100 miles….
Let’s reward ethical behaviors in society…..

They will regret making it hard. If people fear they will not be able to return merchandise, they will purchase less. And I will die before I pay someone to take back something I don’t want.
We have a great solution in our family. We don't buy gifts. We make gifts, bake cookies, entertain, visit, and volunteer.

The amount of returns we see after the holidays shows that people are buying too many things for people that don’t need them, which translates to wasting money.
They make it harder to do ANYTHING, even if you working for them or a customer.
I’d rather money as a gift as opposed to an actual gift. And I also recommend ppl do this instead.
Retailers should introduce some control serial returners and abusers that spoils the flexibility for others. There are millions of people who return clothes after using it for parties.
Considering Retailers are facing steep cuts in their budgets after the holidays. It's for sure Returns will get harder.
Even getting a store credit.
Don't give any gifts to anybody.😂
Just do gift cards
Gifts should be for little kids anyway. This stressful commercialization is ridiculous. Gifting to ungrateful clods? I don't think so.
The U.S is catching up with European return policies. In France, it is very hard to return things
