Southwest reluctance to have hubs and alliances/codesharing causes these problems. Other airlines can reticket folks on many different airline choices through partners and can simply send passengers to a hub like Atlanta, Dallas or Los Angeles to connect. No such option for Southwest. Options are extremely limited unless you are flying within California or Texas.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I am gonna post it anyway in the comments section. Yes southwest is to blame for some things but at the same time these airline passangers need to realize that it's the winter season and they made the choice and took the risk to travel this time of year. We needed high speed rail decades ago.
Last time I flew southwest the flight was oversold so they were asking for volunteers and if you know how southwest boards your number is based on when you check in. The later you check in the lower your boarding number. So I'm assuming the lowest number would be the first ones to be denied boarding if they didn't have volunteers, all the while they were still allowing people to pay the extra $40 to get the early boarding which a few people took advantage of. They had enough volunteers but in my opinion this is a very shady and greedy practice.

I believe this was a coordinated plan between them and Trump to make Biden and Pete Buttigieg look bad. The pilots would often have sticker signs on their cabin doors criticizing our president. Democrats and Liberals, don't use their services because when you do, you're feeding the bellies of sorry a** bigots. They also support domestic terrorism.
