The Inflation Reduction Act includes a $35 a month limit on what patients pay out of pocket for insulin. But that’s only for those with Medicare; it’s estimated that there are more than 21 million people left out of the legislation who still have to pay tens of thousands of dollars a year for the life-saving medicine. Two brothers tell NBC News’ Gadi Schwartz about their anger at the exclusion. “We don’t have other options,” one says.

Just another example of why this country sucks
It's a free market, companies deserve profit for their hard work.
They make it so it's not even worth working hard. You can work part time, make 12k or whatever is just under the limit for EBT and that's low enough for Medicaid for sure. Then with your free time you can save on childcare, be crafty, self-starting, grow plants etc. or just enjoy your time, literally saving money versus working really hard and driving a vehicle you pay a ton for to drive to work with almost all your waking efforts.
Type 2s: please check out the low-carb, ketogenic, or carnivore diets. You can reverse your immediate need for exogenous insulin in as little as 10 days, depending on how long you’ve been living with the disease. After that, yes, it’s a lifestyle change and takes time, months, most likely, before you can re-establish a normal insulin response.
Isn’t it at least worth a try? To save tens of thousands of dollars and feel so much better and stronger?
Just asking. Why subsidize this damned Big Pharma and Big Food industry that thrives off lousy medical and nutritional advice, while so many suffer and die? If you think this advice is lousy, do some research; there’s great information all over the web and right here on YouTube.
Type 1, well, I have known friends use a low-carb diet to see more stable blood sugars and much lower insulin needs, but, of course, if your body’s not making viable insulin, yes, the injectable insulin is a life-saver.
I'm surprised you just figured this out
The government in America does not help the hard working taxpayers but squeeze us like turnips to get every dime from us. How is this even a question, of course insulin should cost less The pharmaceutical companies are harming Americans where is our government to protect us from their greed Please please stop this inhumane greed!!! Just think methadone is free for drug addicts. Methadone is not needed to live. Your punished for having diabetes I guess. Drug addict rewarded with free needles and meds — crazy and unbelievable!!!!
This should cover for adults not just Medicare. This is a life and death drug. We can give billions to Ukraine but nothing to Americans. This is wrong and people can’t afford insulin. Biden should be ashamed of himself and all the administration for letting the pharmaceutical companies win on this. They are profiting on the lives and death of Americans. Insulin can not cost this much this is life for some. This is why cognitive deficit president is not what we need Lower the cost of insulin
Should’ve stayed with Trump
Hello all. I have been a Pharmacist for 32 years & will be the first to admit that prescription prices are WAY out of control. The increases that I have witnessed over the past 32 years are simply staggering. The root causes are multifactorial & complicated, but there ARE some hidden costs that are MAJOR factors in drug prices that NOBODY ever mentions and that are shocking when researched. 1. Insurance companies themselves have played a major role in increased drug prices over the years. 2. The U.S. GOVERNMENT itself is a major contributor to drug costs. I have had direct experience with the FDA's drug approval process. Common people just do not know what info to look for, or where to look..Here is just ONE example how the hidden govt costs come out of YOUR pocket by way of increased drug prices (easily googled & even disclosed on the FDA site itself). Here is just one great article- read it for yourselves. There are many others.
https://globalregulatorypartners.com/fda-releases-2022-new-user-fees/
Please keep in mind that these "Application Fees" from Pharmaceutical Companies are required by the FDA for each & every new drug (i.e.- every new insulin, every pen formulation, every minor modification, etc) and these are PASS/FAIL, meaning that if the application is rejected, ANOTHER FEE is due when re-submitting (care to guess how often THAT happens? THAT eventually ALL gets passed on to you by way of price increases. The Govt has the Bully Pulpit (voice) and is VERY effective in directing your attention away. If they are REALLY serious about reducing costs, let's start with them taking a HARD LOOK IN THE MIRROR. There is really NO good reason why an Application Fee for ANYTHING should be over $3 million. Sorry for being lengthy…
This must Stop.. total immoral behaviour
Thanks Republicans, for continuing to bow to these pharmaceutical lobbyists who know people spend on insulin to live and only care about their bottom line and their stock price.
Strange how they give Methadone away for free🤔
Gross Greed!!
Half way solutions, thank you republicans n democrats
For type 1 diabetics , I am sorry , this stinks , for type 2,(which is the majority ) STOP EATING !!! Go run on the treadmill !!!
Of course it does
And democrats controlled by big pharma knee this
But white liberals believe in platitudes
We need to find the cause of childhood diabetes. It isn’t diet, as they’re often born with it, we need to find a cure.
You can't blame the current Administration for this failure to protect more people. In this case, the Democrats were satisfied with "half a loaf." If you think that they intended to leave over 20 million people unprotected, the votes against extending any kind of medical benefits to people are documented. I am nearly 70, not diabetic (yet) and have no particular interest in this issue. I do believe that it's a way to "save" pennies in our trillion-dollar budget, something that Conservatives love.
But Joe said he lowered cost? He didn’t say only for some
You mean the program that Trump created and then Biden got rid of and is now bringing it back claiming it’s his work? Yup! Typical Biden.
Why not change your eating habits and exercise 3-4 days a week🤷🏽♀️ simple fix
this is america. money before people, the christian way.
Why was there no mention of how it was the Senate Republicans who blocked those of us with private insurance from receiving the $35 cap on insulin?
Insulin manufacturers are price gouging Americans and Republicans voted against a measure to stop it.
Yup. We're being dicked around.
What happens every time government tries to cap cost on something ? ………. Suddenly there is less of the product , how is that going to be good ? Duhhhhhhhh.
Take care of yourself, stop eating sugar?
Gotta love Big Pharma. I know the Democrats do when it's time to collect donations.
Why don't all the diabetic people crowdfund their own insulin company? Then make it free
One more example of the overall endemic greed in our health system
