The superintendent of Virginia’s Newport News schools says the backpack of a 6-year-old was searched before he shot his teacher due to a security warning.

This is 2023, children have ipads dropped in their laps at age 2 & have access to all the info in the world. This has to be impacting child brain development. Access to more info always does. When was the infant statute put into place? It seems like little kids are much more aware now. I’d love to hear if child development people have noticed developmental changes with all of he new tech?

Why would a child has a gun？ Why does the family adult who takes him to school about the gun? Charge the parents! Parents should be responsible for their kids action until they reach 18years old!

Why did the child believe he needed to shoot the teacher? Was he being molested by the teacher? Why not investigate that the root cause? Do your complete job and do some investigative reporting. Duh.

Children should not have to go through metal detectors and have their backpacks searched before they can enter school grounds.
In order to protect students and staff, it appears they're going to need to put this in place.

it continues to shock me, although i’m not sure why anymore, that there isn’t a standard protocol for all schools- sad as this is to say- for the steps to take in each and every scenario. why does it almost always seem to come out that NOT taking immediate action created a deadly or dangerous outcome?

not adding up……if kid was searched and nothing was found, do we blame admin?….something being left outta this story
they searched for a gun cause they somehow knew he might have one? but didn't find it… so where was it if not in his backpack? or is that what they searched? obviously there was intent of SOMETHING. he brought it to school FOR something! children that young sometimes can't comprehend CONSEQUENCES before they act, but, having BEEN a six year old at least once before, i can vouch that they CAN have intent to do a thing. and follow through
