The money goes straight to politicians. The cities cut the education budgets to zero and the lottery money funds the entire system, the money the city has for education gets funneled and voila the schools run on minimum funding and the allocated funding disappears.

Funny you should ask. I remember when Oregon was trying to sell theirs and the whole angle was that it would be to help schools. Now, schools and education still suffer, and the money is tossed around willy-nilly; sometimes on very spurious and laughable agendas.
In my state, we had a Democrat governor that promised we would use the money for education. Not sure what happened but we gave up spelling to salvage English, don't even ask me about math!!!

It doesn't go to where they say it goes. In fact, most states place 100% of lottery money into their general fund with virtually nothing going to education. NPR just did a story about this a week ago.

In Arizona most people that play think the money goes to education and community programs but in reality 2/3 goes to the general fund.
