At least six people are dead after severe storms ripped through Alabama and across the southeast, leaving behind significant damage. The weather service says over a dozen tornadoes have been reported in the Yellowhammer State. NBC News meteorologist Bill Karins shares the latest.

I just need to vent this commentary on where we have come as a society. NBC News aired a piece on the victims of this horrific tornado event in Alabama. I was just dumbfounded that a mother did not know how her children were at their school – alive or lost – yet she first took time to make a detailed video and cry extensively on the loss of her house and say "at least we are alive – well I don't know about the kids." At least NBC News thought they should follow up and see how the kids were.

I work on Maxwell and there was some damage; signs ripped off buildings, small sheds destroyed, etc, but I don't think it was a tornado. Just very strong winds.

Horrible experience being in these storms. I know people want to go outside and film these tornadoes, but many of these deaths are from debris. Shelter and stay safe!
