Despite $35 insulin price cap, pricing pressure continues

Researchers claim about 16% of diabetics across the U.S. skip insulin doses due to the high costs of the medication. As Democratic legislators celebrate a recent cap put on the price of insulin, NBC’s Zinhle Essamuah reports on why many critics say that cap doesn’t help enough people.

  1. It’s just awful that republicans continue to try to hike the cost…it’s deplorable and they should be ashamed!

  2. Get a Temporal Residency in México and you might get them for free.

  3. The world is laughing at America because of out healthcare system…

  4. It’s criminal to charge that much. The scientist that discovered it gave it away for $1.00.

  5. Republicans have a real problem with rights. They think people don't have the right to live.

  6. Everyone take note that it's republicans voting on the wrong side again.

  7. Many of the same people who hate Big Pharma for this greed seem to enjoy the vaccine greed. Can we all say Oxy?

  8. The world could use more humanitarians like the person who created the polio vaccine and made nothing because it was so important to society.

  9. Cough cough…. The Republicans voted it down! Is my microphone on? Test one two test.

  10. Criminals that our elected officials profit from! Vote them out! The donor class needs to be stopped!

  11. I cannot believe Republicans did not wanted to pass this bill.
Republican Party does not represent average American people but the wealthiest.

  12. The cap only covers so many units. So for someone I know, when they reached the cap, the price went up to $270.

  13. Yeah and that's not counting the BILLS they have to pay!

  14. Any Immagrants that are reading this that are thinking of coming to America.

DONT! America is a Fake Democracy and is not the land of the free. Everything you heard about America is propaganda. You won't have a better life here. You will be the Poorest of the Poor. The bottom of American Social Class. You will have the Jobs Americans dont want to do. Dont come to America. Stay in your nation, its better than here

  15. So the government says it's $35, and then Pharmacys are not following the law? ARREST THE CEO!

  16. Here in Canada Humulin R and N a vial for $30 each cash. So it is ridiculous the same insulin would be so much more in the US.

  17. That’s just a lot of BS! Insulin prices continue to be high despite the so-called $35 cap. A cap on what? Per shot? Like gas Prices, which have increased half a dollar per gallon in good old Republic in Iowa.

  18. 4:19 "people should take lightly" lol wow… is she talking about those *WHO CANT AFFORD THEM? YOU THINK THOSE TAKE IT LIGHTLY?

my god the ones that should not take it lightly are your lawmakers but hey, there is GOP and lobbies and money… so you get thrown under the bus every single turn.
your land is barely more than the deepest africa with warlords. you got shootings all freaking day and the chance to get treatment is slim to none. tell me thats not a fact!

  19. America hates its citizens
    – medicare?
    – fair wages?!
    – GUN LAWS?!!

  20. my prescriptions are up 25% last year

  21. Is this an issue in civilized countries like the UK, Australia, Scotland, Canada, etc.?

  22. If you call it out plainly, the Stockholm Syndrome sufferers come out to defend their captor

Capitalism in healthcare requires the sacrifice of a sector of patients in order to protect it.

    READ THAT OVER….AGAIN

    …and AGAIN.

The reasons given in justification are open gaslighting and chicanery

  23. Do you know what would really bring down the price insulin? Less demand for it. How does that happen? The proper diet, one that does NOT include starchy carbohydrates, processed food, alcohol, anything with white flour, or sugar. Diabetes begins with insulin resistance and IR can be reversed. How? Eat the right food, ffs.

  24. I've had Type 1 IDDM for 51 years. I have insurance- and I have to pay 15% of retail cost for my insulin, glucose testing strips, and insulin syringes, and other prescriptions. Even with a well-paying job and so-called "good insurance" there are months I struggle to find the money for all of my supplies. Not taking insulin does not mean I would be "not living a healthy life"- it means I DIE. And because I have insurance and make more income than permitted- I do not qualify for any of the "discounts" offered by insulin manufacturers. I am not old enough to retire and take Social Security Retirement. I am eligible for Disability, but the income cut that brings makes affording regular stuff like food (I also have food allergies), toiletries like basic soap, shampoo, cleaning supplies, utility bills, housing, transportation, non-covered supplies like alcohol wipes, sharps containers (for proper disposal of my used syringes), and glucose tablets, as well as other necessities like OTC meds and co-pays for doctor appointments un-budgetable. I prefer to work- but if anything happens where I no longer can- I can't afford to live, let alone stay healthy.
The price cap should cover all people with Diabetes who need to take insulin to stay alive and as healthy as possible- whether they have private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, or no insurance at all. This is Big Pharma price gouging those who will die without their products- because they know we need it to stay alive- we have no choice but to pay the high prices right now.
    That needs to change.

  25. Capitalism is a scam, and a crime.

  26. Only a price cap for seniors on Medicare. Narcan is easier to get than insulin and epinephrine.

  27. Americans taxpayers pay for drug development and big pharma mark what ever they want

  28. Medicare for all would have helped no corrupt corporate pressure lobbyists buying most of the politicians

  29. Health system only give service to those wealthy people because they are futuristic people who been selected as autocratic leader to leadership population survival living in earth with capitalize system.

  30. A redneck conservative will be like PRAISE JESUS….get a better job you moron!

  31. Go Fund Me is the new American health care system. Insurance and big Pharma don’t care, they are profit driven

  32. After paying Canada $1 for the patent, capitalism gets you the mess we have.

  33. cough up money or died , the America health care system!

  34. How about folks that need to cut their pills in half to save money?

  35. No such thing as health care as our government bends to big pharma… hows that vaccine going that stops covid and the spread ? 🤣

  36. Healthcare in the US? You are joking right? As soon as the pharma's puts a name on the drug, they can charge as much as they want.
