If a taxi driver sees a white person or a person speaking a foreign language they’ll charge them $100 (US) or more to go from the airport to the hotel.

I asked a group of Taxi guys at the Tijuana border where I could get an Uber to go to Playas (8 miles from Tijuana). I told them how much an Uber driver would charge me, one of the drivers said the area I was going to was way on the other side of Playas so he would have to charge me double, I told him that I would only pay what I was going to pay Uber and they (yes they, these guys work as a group) eventually gave in. As the Taxi driver drove me to Playas he asked me if I trusted Uber with my credit card information, I was thinking; I don't trust Taxi drivers, especially when I'm in Tijuana and my Spanish is not as fluent as theirs. This is not just happening in Cancun.
